CRUSHED SHELL FLAKES
Historically known from the late 1800’s signage industry as “brocade”, our loose flakes are veneer trimmings that have been crushed and then screened to yield pieces about ¼” and under. They can easily be crushed/screened further to suit your own requirements. Available in White MOP, Gold MOP, and Paua Abalone. Uses include Japanese lacquer-work, reverse glass signage, interior decorating, theatrical props, fishing lures, craft projects, and jewelry, as well as our “sparkle” M.O.P. and abalone sheets. Haven’t seen it on a guitar yet, but am willing to bet someone will figure a way!
We also have White M.O.P. flakes which were produced by heating shells to make them much more fragile, and then crushing and screening the resulting material to several different mesh sizes. These flakes are much softer and very easy to further crush by hand into extremely fine reflective powders, such as used in cosmetic applications. These are sold by the pound, so enquire for details.
